Meredith Axelrod & Craig Ventresco @ Blind Boone Fest 2007

Back

Meredith and fellow string master Craig Ventresco with this delightful tune. The full title is: "Hoop-E-Kack" - A Cosmopolitan Conglomeration - two step novelty". At least, that's the way it's printed on the sheet music cover. It was composed by Thomas S. Allen in 1909.

This all took place at a concert in Columbia, Missouri. The concerts were hosted by the BLIND BOONE RAGTIME & EARLY JAZZ FESTIVAL, and this was just one of many events during the three day festival. It was great!

I HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE NEXT FESTIVAL!

By the way, the full title is: "Hoop-E-Kack" - A Cosmopolitan Conglomeration - two step novelty". At least, that's the way it's printed on the sheet music cover. I should mention this two-guitar performance is absolutely superb and in the finest tradition of the old banjo and guitar instrumentalists of the ragtime era.

The sheet music to this is available online at the Indiana University Sheet Music Collection, as well as another rag or two and many songs by Mr. Allen (who would later be succeeded by George L. Cobb as as the main staff composer at Walter Jacobs publishing house)

Oh man, this is FANTASTIC! I love the ending phrase Mr. Allen writes at the last 4 bars of the trio (C strain); it is wonderful, gives people's ears something to "hang on to", and helps "make" the piece.

Another great performance! This piece is "Hoop-e-Kack" by Thos. S. Allen, 1909.
