me too. I was the Judge, the Fireman, a Polish immegrant, and Admiral Perry, as well as part of the general ensemble.

The Lion King deserved design awards but Ragtime is far superior in terms of original story and score and is a much strong piece of art. It also happend that Ragtime was produced by Livent, a company that went under shortly after Ragtime opened limiting it's run.

I love the bit where they split into the different ethnic groups and spin around each other.

Prejudices are not innate for children. There is a thru-line in the show of that boy NOT understanding/abiding by the prejudices that surround him... he sees people for who they are... not what group they belong in. It is a brilliant choice to use the innocence of a child to show the ignorance of prejudice.
