Luffy is convinced the Straw Hat's ship, Going Merry, is not strong enough to withstand the furthur seas. He feels they are too rough, so he decides to give up the ship.

However, Usopp feels the exact opposite way. Kaya gave him the Going Merry, so he is convinced the ship is a nakama and is strong. Usopp leaves the crew, but not before dueling Luffy over the Going Merry.

NOTE: The Water 7 arc is the best One Piece arc. The entire crew falls apart. It's awesome.

If you mean by fighting ability, Robin would probably actually be 4. She's disarmed all the SH in one go (which makes Usopp, Nami, and Brooke useless, although Zoro's sheer strength might still overwhelm her) and did take down Franky in order to get him to join the crew.

To all the people saying Usopp is so badass in this fight. What badass is there abandoning your nakama for a ship? Please tell me. Now I don't hate Usopp and I'm glad he eventually apologized to Luffy but for leaving the crew for a reason like that is not badass.

Because to him, the ship -IS- a nakama. Despite knowing how impossibly strong he is and how badly injured he was, he still wouldn't back down.
However, Usopp himself stated that it wasn't simply Merry that made him leave: he knew he was weak and was probably holding the rest of the crew back. While he believes Luffy will be become the Pirate King, he doesn't want to go that far.

ussopped got owned.he can out smart luffy yes but he could never beat him.one of the weakest people one that ship.him and chopper are in the same league
