I'm afraid that I have to agree with Janet Lynn who stated that although Katarina received ballet training in her upper body, her lower body had not. When I see Katarina skate it looks as though the two halves come from different bodies making her basic skating motion look awkward. I do agree that Katarina makes a powerful presence on the ice, but I do not equate personality with artistry. Although I agree that perfect line and toe point are not all there is to artistry, it sure helps!

There is more to artistry then perfect leg line and toe point. Witts interpretation of music, expression, command of the ice, choreography, performance qualities, elegance of movement all set her apart.

Katarina Witt was a strong competitor although, even by her own admission, not always a nice one. She was an athletic skater who excelled in jumping ability. It was her natural beauty, rather than her artistry, that shone on the ice. In this performance, she covers up her bad body line by leaning forward in a spread eagle. One only need examine her layback spin to notice the poor position in both her back and free leg. However, with two Olympic gold medals, one cannot deny her accomplishments.

She made a few mistakes, such as at 3:00, but it was a stunning performance regardless. I loved her attitude at 1:50. She also reminds me of my coach for some reason. XD

And Carmen was a very good song choice. The dress fits the Spanish roots of the song, too. :)

BTW Katarina posed for PB in 1996 fully nude.Lovely layout and it sold out!Very hard to get now and a collectable.
