PEPCON rocket fuel plant disaster.

The plant manufactured an oxidizer called Ammonium Perchlorate. Ammonium Perchlorate is not in itself a fuel but a key component. It will however explode if heated to a high temperature in a confined space.

It was estimated equivalent to 250 tons of TNT. That's .25 of a kiloton (kiloton equaling 1,000 tons of TNT).

There were nine million pounds of Perchlorate stored there at the time of the fire, or 4.5 kilotons of perchlorate, not all of which exploded at once (a lot just burned).
