"What Is Enlightenment?" Adyashanti
BackMany people think that enlightenment is an altered state of consciousness. Actually, what we perceive every day through the distorted lens of ego is the truly altered state -- we see things that don't exist, we believe things that aren't happening, and we live in a false world of our own creation. In this direct and practical satsang, Adyashanti opens the door into the clear seeing that is our natural state of enlightenment.

"Crucify the ego!" They chant with peaceful intonation.
I've had what you describe as the "awakening." The moment when ego fades away. It changes you for a couple hours until hunger pangs set in and you realize that alas, there's no escape from one's subjective nature(ego).
Enlightenment is not "to think without the ego". It's more along the lines of: "to think without the limitations of words and other such pre-conceived notions."
You're on the right path, young man.

Thought from the eye closes the understanding, but thought from the understanding opens the eye. E.S.

I figure the brain and the mind are two different things. The brain serves physical functions both conscious and unconscious, and the mind is an abstract creation made of thought processes. Only the mind is capable of the analytical doubt that's holding you back. Enlightenment (to me, and IMO at the moment) is not the eradication of thought and mind, but it is the 'freedom' from it.. to be at peace with whatever answers you may find in your inquiries. Belief isn't necessary.. it's just thoughts.

So, the real question, are you free from it, or entrapped by it? What's the greater trick of the brain.. natural enlightenment, or entanglement with thought?

How does he know what he is doing is enlightment?

There is no benefit of knowing this.Don't make it an object as though you can reach out and obtain something or become better..You are enlightened and what stops you from seeing it is your mind filling it up with some story.
