they're good when they're small but when they get big like this they become dangerous to other tank mates so i would get rid of it

Don't kill it. Even though they look scary, they are the perfect reef-safe scavengers.

it seems there are mixed responses to these worms. i have lots in my tank as well...what to do? natural selection?!

Basically, only a small minority of bristle worms are dangerous. I generally say that you shouldn't worry if the worms aren't attacking anything alive. Often people blamed worms for killing there clams or fish only because they saw the worms eating the dead bodies.

Also, you can see in one of the related videos from "andthatsalright" another illogical conclusion by uninformed people. He said that the worm ate his goby because "they get about 18 inches and eat your fish", which is a myth.
The worm in the video looked like a fire worm. The Shimek article I linked above states that a fire worm has "no jaws to bite off chunks of food, rather it must lick them to death" where feeding can take hours, which means a living fish should have been able to escape.
