Severe Thunderstorm - Perris, Ca - 08/06/05
BackThis is my storm chase of a severe thunderstorm that hit the Perris area on August 6, 2005. It generated a microburst that toppled 16 power poles along San Jacinto Ave that resulted in several injuries as the poles fell on cars traveling along the road.

Since I grew up in Oklahoma (the first trashcan in Tornado alley..heh...) I concider what I just watched to be an average Thunderstorm...no big deal.
I have lost count of the number of times I have had to go miles out of my way just to avoid storm debris and high water in the streets.
A storm with 90+ mph winds and hail at least as large as my fist is impressive...anything less is just kinda routine.

I will never forget that day because my brother and I went train watching up in Cajon Pass to watch trains and to catch a severe thunderstorm. Sure enough we got caught in one and it was producing a flash flood bur we drove through it and lots of lightning. I heard several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings including the one for Perris.

I remeber that damn well. i had just moved to Cali form Va and i remember my bro saying how it hardly ever rains and we were stuck on the mountain with a foot of snow. I remember reading a sign that said Los angeles 97 miles and could not help but laugh. It rained like crazy for a couple of days with crashing thunder and lightning, it was intence.

we had a microburst last year in central illinois with 115 mph winds, buildings were destroyed or damaged and a few buildings collpsed. we also had a hail storm that evening with nickel to quarter size hail and 70 mph winds
