The Chernobyl disaster - the severe days

Back

This film shows the terrifying images captured by the Russian filmmaker Vladimir Shevchenko on scene at Chernobyl those dreadful days in April 1986. Shevchenko later died suffering from the radiation he exposed himself to. Believe whatever you will.. I'm not here to spark a religious debate with you.. but you know as well as I do the potential of totalitarian regimes.. and what they are capable of organizing, and who they will sacrifice in the name of their cause. The men were rounded up out of their homes and villages. You and I don't know what really happened to those people. Your pretentious behavior doesn't effect me in the least. Troll on someone else.

But I think I don't want to know..... :o(

I have watched the documentary Battle of Chernobyl. Very disturbing, fearsome what happened there. I wonder how many nuclear reactors of that inferior design were built in Eastern Europe.

I woman I work with was from the Ukraine, her husband was a liquidator, in fact he is the only man of his group that is still alive today. He suffered massive GI bleeds and severe complications for months afterwards. The Russian govt sent in young Christian men to control and shovel those materials onto the burning radioactive mass. They both claim that the only reason he is still alive is because of God. A miracle any way you look at it, whether you believe or not.

Hey Geico,

Did they interview the liquidators and send in only Christians? HMMmmmm?
I don't think so.

BTW There is no "god".

well played, my assessment was incorrect. I should have mentioned the steam pockets, but the accident did have something to do with a shutdown of one of the cores, for emergency procedures or overhaul.. someone neglected to realize the steam pockets, and IIRC the gauges did not recognize it either. Either way, the disaster still hasn't reached its full potential.

Hey Geico, do some research. Chernobyl failed due to operator ineptitude. They pulled the control rods out and steamed the core. The sensors didn't pick up on the steam pockets and the reactor was out of control. It spiked and blew up.

GeicoKaveman sid
" What happened was a failure of the back up systems on a test run for emergency procedures. Think of it like this. Nuclear power is basically steam generated, with the rods of uranium submerged in water, which through a series of processes boils the water and generates power through turbines. The water levels reached critically low levels and went undetected, and when the water was added again it caused a flash boil and massive explosion."
