First Floor Jumpers: "Cellar Steps"

First off: I want to say that there definitely WILL be more outdoor videos on here, hopefully starting toward the far end of this weekend. I don't mean to complain but the truth is I got some sort of nerve injury in my right leg about a month ago which a couple times made me scream as I drove to work and wish I could scream when I got there...it's not an excuse and it's a LOT better the last few days. I just wanted to say it in case anybody thought I planned on spending the rest of my life writing short songs...although I do...but I plan on getting scared on tops of mountains in between doing that.Anyway here's another little one I wrote tonight. I hope you like it. See you in the mountains soon!"Cellar Steps"It's raining now so I'm safe, I thinkDown the cellar steps near the washing sinkAnd the old pine shelves and the canning jarsFull of pickles from '77Though the cobwebs always grab my faceOn this whole damned farm it's the only place; When I thought it first I laughed right out loud:I'm descending the steps into HeavenIn my other life I'm awake by threeAll the cows and the dim and the milk and the meI do the work and I leave with a smile'Cause the Old Man hates something's-the-matterTime at school is just time betweenThe work and the work, but the waking dreamPushes on as the kids in their licensed attireQuestion fortunes of pitchers and battersBut the old guitar that I might not playDue to the moisture or relative action todayStill awaits I can hopeTwenty steps from the stairsBehind boxes and garbageAnd nothingAny luck they'll have stayed upstairsTilled up the corn field, forgot the repairsTo the treads on the stepsThey never descend anywayCross your fingers I'm lucky againAnd if you know my Old Man please don't let it end.(c)2010 First Floor Jumpers
